If the noise can be reduced or blocked- then every effort should be taken to do this.
However, sometimes this isn't possible e.g. a thunderstorm outside. Things to do: place dog in small quiet room if possible with closed windows, closed curtains and lights off, no furniture which can be easily knocked over or cause injury if dog panics, soft furnishings or covered area/den for dog to hide.
For fireworks or thunderstorms it is highly recommended to do desensitisation to the sounds using programmed CDs. Which desensitise the dog slowly over a few weeks to the noise.
