Stress reduction will be super important any time you are introducing your cat to a new dog or cat. It is not an easy task though. Cats can be stressed out creatures when they are exposed to something new. You will know better than anyone what might help to keep your cat calm. I have seen pheromone sprays work well in these situations. When introducing cats to each other, it might help reduce stress for both animals to let them sniff something the other has come in contact with, such as a t shirt or blanket. I have also had success with letting cats sniff each other under a closed door. With dogs, it's important to not just let the dog run up to the cat and start sniffing it. If the dog is overly excitable, it might be best to also let the dog sniff the cat under a closed door. The success you have in these first moments of your cat meeting a new pet can determine how the rest of their relationship will go.
