Counter conditioning is the form of training deigned for fear-related behaviors.
Many different stimuli can affect dog such as noise (thunder, fireworks, gunshots, etc), other dogs or persons or even object. Dog often reacts with fear, most times it is visually noticeable that the dog is scared, but sometimes it may not be so visible, dog can escape, or just get anxious, or even not react at all.
Negative feelings (sometimes dog can react with aggression out of fear) have a bed habit or getting worse until it comes to stages of phobia.
Counter conditioning is about changing the response of your dog, and not just changing the behavior but also changing the way the dog entirely feels about the stimuli it affects him.
During this training, fearful stimuli is accompanied with something dogs pleasures very much. Training always start with lowest possible level or stimuli/fear. Favorite food is the usual choice.
Counterconditioning takes a lot of time and planing and practice and willing.
