Exercise is great for changing a horse's attitude. It can solve a number of problems, from picking on other horses when they are loose to prancing and excited under saddle. In my experience being able to take a horse and hit a steady trot for several miles every day or several times a week can make drastic changes. When they are somewhat tired they are less interested in picking on other horses, or acting silly when you put pressure on them during training. It also allows for them to relax without the rider picking or training, and depending on the area allows them to see some new scenery besides an arena.
