Kicking and biting might be a way of a horse telling you they are stressed. We have a horse that does not like people working with her while she is in her stall. She is fine out of her stall but gets defensive when we are in there with her. We respect her safe place and realize she gets very stressed when it is violated leading to negative behaviors. Working with her only while out of the stall has dramatically cut down on her biting and defensive behaviors. She is learning that we are not going to invade her safe place and she is much happier to cooperate and is learning to trust.
