Crate Training a new addition to the pet family allows the new dog to see the new environment without the stress of having to figure out what to DO.
So long as the new dog is properly introduced to the crate and is comfortable being in it, a crate is a great way to introduce a new pup without worrying about them getting into dangerous situations, or getting in over their head with older pets.
Over time, as they become more comfortable, the crate provides them with a place to retreat when they are overwhelmed or stressed by something new. Very good tool for introducing new dogs.
