While toys and other environmental enrichment won't stop a dog from being anxious, they can be used within the context of a larger training program to help reduce anxiety. If a dog has nothing better to do than sit and wait for you to get back, it will increase the chances of them getting anxious. If instead, they have access to toys and things to keep their minds entertained, they are less likely to get triggered.
