I often use probiotics in rabbits for many different reasons:
1. I prescribe them along with antibiotics in rabbits. Antibiotics can kill the good and bad bacteria in the gut, therefore probiotics help prevent diarrhoea and changes in motility of the gut.
2. I use them when a rabbit has decreased motility of the intestines (gut stasis)
3. I use them when a rabbit has diarrhoea
Probiotics are also known as "good bacteria" and help to keep the intestines healthy. Rabbits can hide their symptoms or decline rapidly if they have a problem with their digestive system. They are also more prone to the side effects of many commonly used antibiotics. Therefore, I often use probiotics as a way to help keep their digestive health in good order and help prevent problems!
