Abnormal blood test results are infrequent (less than 15% of dogs), but include mild anemia that may be masked initially by dehydration, lymphocytosis, and eosinophilia. Lack of a stress leukogram -frequently present in ill animals with noninfectious diseases- is due to lack of an adequate cortisol reserve. So, our pet will not develop this pattern in spite of being seriously "stressed."
