Banamine can be a very helpful medication when used correctly. This drug is only available through a veterinarian and can be given orally or injected. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain. Banamine can be given for a wide variety of pain and is commonly used for abdominal pain in horses (colic). This drug also has anti-inflammatory qualities that can be helpful in some cases.
While Banamine can be very helpful to ease pain, it can also mask colic symptoms. For this reason, owners may think their horse is better while the horse is actually declining in health. It is important to use this drug under veterinary supervision (or call a vet right away).
