Milk thistle has great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and detoxifying actions within the liver. In humans, It is also thought to stimulate the flow of bile from the gall bladder. Some studies have shown it also might have anti-cancer actions, by slowing down the growth of some liver cancers.
I often recommend my patients with liver diseases to start a supplement to aid the function of the liver. Usually they contain combination of ingredients which work together to promote liver health and always include milk thistle. Examples I use include: Denamarin advanced (protexin), Samylin (Vetplus) or Hepaticare.
