Asthma attacks can be so severe that they require critical care, in these cases it's important to asses blood gases if possible. ABG can give us important indication about severity of the problem, and help us decide what's the most appropriate next step. Some dogs can just have a bit of bronhodilatators and go to x-ray, while others require immediate oxygen therapy and sedation in order to survive. Though experienced clinicians can usually make this distinction even without analysis, it's better to do it, to be certain.
