Chickens can stop their egg laying if they are without drinkable water. Twelve hours with a dry or dirty container equals more than a week with no eggs.
We use a heated plastic waterer to ensure that we never have to worry about freezing temperatures. Yet, this plastic container can become scummy quite quickly.
Once a week, during one of our regular fill ups, we wipe down and scrub away any and all algae build up. This keeps the water fresh and less pond like.
