When we first rescued Frisco, he was the skinniest little bag of bones ever. He was so underfed that we didn't know how he could possibly have survived. Among the many conditions he had, a sensitive stomach was one of them. And he had ulcers, which made it difficult to feed him. At first I mostly cooked meals for him to get his weight back up, and I made my own yogurt with kefir grains. It helped with the right balance of intestinal micro-organisms and soothed the ulcers when we had to administer antibiotics to him.
Most of our dogs are fed yogurt based treats as it's very healthy for their guts, and there're quite a few recipes out there you could make yourself. For little Frisco, it meant the difference between a comfortable lifestyle and death.
