Many diseases can affect and targets the liver, and the liver itself may have a problem by itself, like cancer. This is where measuring the ALT comes in. If the results show increased levels then it shows the function of the liver is compromised. Other than diagnosing disease, this is very important before surgeries are conducted and when deciding what medication to give. The liver is very important in processing medications that enter the body so it needs to be made certain that medications given will not harm the animal further.
