Great Treatment, Not Appetizing for Some Dogs

The veterinary formulated diets for kidney disease and other conditions are extremely beneficial in treating the illness itself. My dog Noelle was diagnosed with CKD fairly late, as she didn't display any signs until it was almost too late. She began to lose her appetite after a few months -- she would eat the Royal Kanin diet for awhile, and then wouldn't eat at all.
We began cooking for her at home, meals supplemented to meet her nutritional needs while having the least impact on her kidney function was the only option. Once she lost the appetite for that, we moved into any food that she would eat.
This is one of the most difficult aspects, in my experience, of treating CKD. However, if your pet will willingly eat veterinary formulated kidney diet, it is definitely one of the best places to start.
