In the course of evaluating your dog for illness often times "the problem" is obvious. In the case of splenic torsion the spleen is generally enlarged and can be felt in the abdomen on dogs that are not obese. In order to make the best recommendations on how to manage your dogs illness we need to know if there are other diseases or abnormalities present. A full physical examination give the whole picture and lets us make more accurate prognosis.
In splenic torsion surgery is required so picking up things like a heart murmur or abnormal lung sounds are very important to your pets welfare. Sometimes pet owners get frustrated because the problem "is obvious" and they don't want us to look at the rest of the pet. Be patient and let your veterinarian evaluate everything and give your dog the best chance at survival and recovery.
