OFA hip x-rays are the breeding standard for dogs prone to developing hip dysplasia. These are performed in dogs 2 and older. The x-rays themselves are not very time intensive, but typically patients are sedated for these to ensure proper positioning.
Owners may be inconvenienced by x-ray testing, but it is the best thing to do to ensure poor genetics are not being passed on.
