The kidney diet is designed to minimize strain on the kidneys. The kidneys have the job of getting rid of protein waste from the body. When a mammal eats protein it uses the amino acids (building block of protein) needed for tissue or energy then discards any extra. The prescription diet has 'high quality' protein, meaning that it has the amino acids that the body needs the most and a little extra as possible. The better the protein, the less work the unhealthy kidney has to do and the longer it will function.
These diets are of huge benefit to the kidney and should be done for every patient with kidney disease. Dietary management is always good for more body health and longer quality survival.
