Royal Canin gastrointestinal is a great diet for dogs with sensitive digestive tracts, and those who suffer from some kind of GI upset, and if your dog has Rotavirus, which causes anorexia, vomiting and diarrhea it will certainly benefit from an easily digestible, low fat diet such as RC gastrointestinal.
On the other hand, since it resolves in 5-7 days, it's not necessary for your dog to eat perfectly balanced diet which costs a lot more then a regular diet, when some cooked rice and chicken breast can will do the job just the same. If you can afford this diet on top of vet bills, it's certainly better and easier choice, but it's in no way essential for the healing process.
