Royal canin's GI low fat diet is designed to be easily digested requiring little digestive acid so decreasing irritation to the GI tissues. Most dogs find this diet very appealing and eat it readily.
This diet can be helpful for a wide variety of illness. It is not appropriate for animals recovering from major surgery, burns and such things due to the low calorie content.
There is a GI high energy diet that can be used for higher energy needs like in growing puppies with GI disease.
