I purchased a guinea pig several months ago because I wanted a small animal, and because my neighbor has one as well. From handling her pig, they seemed to be extremely social and calm...almost like a miniature dog. So I go one from a breeder when she was just a baby, and of course, she was very frisky and shy. I've tried handling her daily, but it seems like she just doesn't want to be held. I read that they require lots of training and handling until they "accept" you, but I've been trying on a daily basis for months now, and she barely seems different. She hides in her hideaway half the day, only coming out for food and water. Maintenance is easy, just change the bedding when needed and offer fresh fruits and food. Keep water topped off. I'll keep trying, but it's very discouraging to see no progress. She's barely improved. Still very fidgeting and always tries to escape. No bites yet, thankfully. Going to attempt hand feeding.
