My roommates and I got Chestnut together and we love him. He is so friendly and active, and loves to be held. He looks like the perfect hamster- from his markings to his body shape. They are meant to be alone, which is nice because you don't have to worry about them being lonely, or trying to mate with another hamster. Chestnut is the friendliest hamster we could have ever wanted and he is very social. When you talk to him, he'll position himself so that he can look at you. The only problems I have with our hamster is that his cage always starts to smell after 4 or so days, it's really annoying to have to change his bedding all the time. His urine also has such a distinct smell. Overall, I would fully recommend Syrian hamsters because they make great minimal-effort pets that you can actually pet and hold.
