My Syrian hamster is cute, fun to play with, and easy to care for. It's simple to provide a nice habitat for her and to keep it clean with weekly care. She eats well and is overall very healthy. She is sometimes hard to control when she's being handled, and likes to do her own thing, but she doesn't get out often or try to run away from whoever is holding her.
Positives: easy to handle, easy to care for, very healthy, fun to play with and handle.
Negatives: the wheel at night is very loud! I have struggled with finding a quieter wheel, and I recommend the Silent Spinner brand, but it is still loud at night. If you are able to keep the hamster where you don't sleep (in the living room, downstairs, etc.) this would be a great pet for you. If not, you should look into a quieter pet. Along with the loud wheel, all hamsters and their cages have a certain odor about them. It can be managed by keeping the cage clean, but there is only so much you can do. So keep the noise and smell in mind when looking at a Syrian hamster!
