Seems like most children have or have had a hamster as a pet. I know I did. It was one of the worse pets I had. They were not social. They did not like to be held. Actually, they could not even be caught most of the time. They hid in the tunnels of the cage. Having food and water was all they cared about.
I will give them a little credit. They were fun to watch run in their wheel and climb through the tunnels of their cage. When they stuffed food in their cheeks, that was neat too.
Overall, the only thing hamsters are good for is to teach a child the responsibility of caring for a pet. If the child is expecting love in return, get something else.
