My first and so far last experience with the Siberian dwarf hamster was back when I was in high school. I had it in my head that I could tame any aggressive creature so chose the most angry hamster I could find at the petstore.

Needless to say, some animals do not want to be friends and will merely tolerate your presence at best. For my hamster, we had a long several months where I patiently got him used to me. I was never able to handle him or pick him up but I did get him to a point where he didn't outright attack my hand anytime I needed to reach into his cage.

This little guy and I co-existed with ease where he tolerated me and got to live out his life happily in his own cage with plenty of activities, toys and treats.

When shopping for a hamster - Go for the friendly ones! Unless that is you want to let a grumpy one live out their retirement in your home.
