Living in a rural area, it's routine to come across wild orphaned animals. When I was in high school, a friend found a litter of raccoons whose mom had died. I cared for one. He was a charming little critter who hated taking a bath, and thought he was a dog. My neighbor was on his way to work one morning, and couldn't believe his eyes at 5 am when my mom's a cocker spaniel, brothers boxer, and a raccoon all crossed the road single file.
