I do not recommend giving a Netherland Dwarf to a young child as a gift. I received Angie when I was about seven years old and my mother did end up performing a lot of her care for the first couple of years I owned her. That being said, Angie was a very sweet little rabbit. She loved to be held and pet, but absolutely hated having her nails trimmed. Oddly, she got along marvelously with our kitten when we got her and they became good friends. I've no idea how Netherland Dwarfs would socialize with older cats. She needed a great deal of company or she would scratch at her litter and flip the pan out of boredom. I had her for several years before she was given away and I was very happy with her.
