Gerbils are crazy

I got a gerbil because I had never owned one before. I named her Chloe. She was black and awesome. I wish I had a picture of how cool she was. But she was also insane. She spent most of her day digging at the corner of her glass habitat trying to claw her way through the wall. I'm pretty sure she spent most of her night doing the same thing. She had toys. She had food. She'd rather try to escape through the impenetrable wall.

You could easily hold her in your hand. She would hang near you if she was loose. She never bit anyone. She was silly, small and friendly. Her house was a dream to clean. Just dump the litter and refill. She was great. Then one morning she died. Just no warning, no signs of illness, she just was dead. Whatever killed her ended up killing one of my hamsters too due to a bowl mix up.

Gerbils are great for older children. Great for adults. Not really the super cuddly type of animal. If you want an animal that loves you as much as you love them, I would go with a species like a rabbit or guinea pig.
