We got Basil when we first moved in together, as a companion to our existing giant rabbit. In the five years we've had him Basil has consistently lived up to his nickname of 'grumpy old grandad'.
Basil doesn't like affection - unless you catch him while he's being fed, in which case he'll happily lean into your hand before remembering what's going on. His little grunts are often followed up with a quick run and 'head-butt' to show things are okay really. This fake grumpiness continued into bonding with Betsy - we thought he hated her when he began to bite her tail on their 'dates', but a specialist assured us that this was actually a result of separation anxiety; he'd already bonded and wanted to be with Besty all the time!
