Mini Lop rabbits, cute but need attention!

As a child, I kept a mini lop rabbit. He was very cute, and easy to handle. I named him “Raggit” and I truly loved him.

I happily kept Raggit for a couple years until one day in the summer I didn’t check-up on him and he got heat stroke in his enclosure outside. Raggit survived the tragedy, but I never fully recovered. I gave him away to a new owner who had more experience and was willing to give him the attention he needed to be a happy and healthy pet.

Rabbits, and lop-ears especially are very cute and can be a satisfying pet – however if the rabbit is a child’s pet, the parent must be quite actively involved in its care. Children are easily distracted by other things, and if they have a pet like a rabbit that is largely kept in an enclosure, it is easy for a child to forget about the animal.

To this day I have not owned another rabbit as a part of me is still fearful I would make a mistake and inadvertently put the animal in danger. Rabbits are cute and sweet, but easily forgotten! Don’t get one unless you are ready to make a daily commitment to care for the animal’s physical and emotional well-being.
