Chinchilla's are, in my humble opinion, the most adorable small mammal. Not to mention their individual and very unique personalities that can make you laugh and entertain you for hours; especially during their activity time when they're running around the room and ricocheting off walls.

However, it's pretty essential that you spend a little time training them and socializing them. They can be very mischievous trouble-makers. And you may want to do a bit of house-proofing so they don't chew up your baseboards or stray wires.

Reading up on how to properly care for them is the first thing you need to do before buying. These are very high maintenance pets.

That being said, I would not recommend this pet to younger kids unless there is an adult that is willing to do all the work and monitor all activity time. Caring for them, both in meeting their needs and making them happy, is very time consuming. If they aren't engaged and given enough attention, they can become anti-social and destructive.

If you can give them everything they need, then they're tons of fun to have.
