Acquired: Pet store

When I was a child, my brothers and I had a pet hedgehog named Sonic (of course). We got him a local pet store and owned him for approximately 2 years before he passed away.
While probably not the best pet for kids (not very cuddly), our hedgehog usually didn't mind being held. He was a gentle little guy and rarely stuck out his spikes--only when he was very spooked by something.
When he was in the habitat/cage we had set up for him, he often went into a cup (like a small cave) to sleep. Unfortunately for us, the habitat would get stinky pretty quickly due to feces and old food scraps, and so we had to clean it pretty regularly (maybe twice a week). This wasn't ideal, but I suppose it did teach us responsibility.
We fed him food purchased at the pet store and supplemented his diet with vegetables and (brace yourself) crickets that we'd find outside. He got his water through a water bottle (the kind that hamsters use) that was hung on his cage.
