A hamster can be a handful for some - they have a distinct smell if not regularly cleaned and they can be difficult to socialize. However, with Maya, given enough time, she became extremely easy to handle and very sociable.

Pros: Easy to maintain and feed, lower maintenance and boundaries were easy to establish. While she wasn't the most cuddly of pets, she was very calm and sweet when handled.

Cons: For anyone thinking about owning a rodent, they should be aware of the training, habitat, poor health issues and lower life span. Hamsters can make great pets - they are very intelligent and independent, and the time you put in is what you will get back.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Maya. She was the first experience I got with a small mammal before my time taking care of Rose, and it was an experience I am glad for.
