Having bunnies was nice, but we didn't really bond with them as much as we hoped. They lived in a hutch in the yard so we didn't get to play with them, we mostly looked at them. We were young enough that that was probably safest for the bunnies because we weren't very gentle. We would have done better with heartier animals.

Our rabbit owning days were numbered, as one of the bunnies started chewing its own leg which was pretty distressing. From a child's perspective, this was horrific to watch. Our experiences before that were mostly enjoyable and I would recommend rabbits to children old enough to handle them appropriately.
