The American Blue is a nice size rabbit with an very gentle temperment, it is one of the rarest breeds on the ALBC listings, listed as critical, there are few breeders of these rabbits in the USA who keep them available. Usually a waiting list of some sort. Recently to expand genetics they were transported across the nation, and traded by breeders on the east coast and west coast to help all who raise them to have more diverse genetics. These are great Pets, which also make good show animals if this is an interest. I love my American Blue Rabbits. They are also recognized breed in white. To find out more about these rabbits and other rare breeds of domestic Live stock check out http://www.albc-usa.org/ , these are not available everywhere as of today, but with proper breeding, and expansion of interest this once regularly raised Rabbit named for our country, could become prolific in numbers again. As it has all traits anyone would want in a rabbit. It is a Large breed so once adult keep in mind, they will be between 9 - 12 lbs, so larger cages or Hutches will be required. If used as Pet, reccomend largest size cage for any Rabbit one purchases. They should be kept in my opinion in minimum sized cage of 2ft x 30 inches with 18 inch minimum, if space is not an issue, an Ideal setup for any Rabbit as a pet woudl be a 2ft x 3ft Hutch with 2 levels, or a rasied platform within a higher ceiling single level.
