African Pygmy Hedgehog Review

I have had hedgehogs as pets since I have been ten years old. They are a unique, and lovely pet to have, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a unique companion. Hedgehogs recently started becoming household pets, and have popularized due to their low cost of ownership, ease of care, and of course, their adorable appearance. Hedgehogs, when cared for properly can live up to seven years in captivity, although some minor health problems such as mites may occur. Overall, they are a healthy animal that may never require a visit to the veterinarian. They are sweet natured, and if properly socialized, will get along quite well with humans. Although hedgehogs make great pets overall, there are some negative aspects. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals, so the majority of their activity occurs at night. They also require quite a bit of socialization, especially within the first year of ownership. A neglected hedgehog will soon turn out to be a grumpy one. Also, since they are an exotic animal, if your hedgehog falls ill, finding a veterinarian with hedgehog expertise may prove difficult. Overall, I would recommend hedgehogs to anyone looking to have a little companion, that is easy to take care of. They are great with children, and teach them responsibility of pet ownership.
