Great Pets but Facing Threats in the Wild

This endearing little turtle started many turtle fans on their way to a fascinating hobby. However, the Western Pond Turtle faces threats across much of its range, and so should be kept and bred only by serious keepers who have the proper permits. They are active, responsive turtles that need a 40 gallon or larger aquarium …breeding groups are best kept in outdoor ponds. Their care is similar to that of the Red-Eared Slider…a varied, high calcium diet, well-filtered water, hot basking site and daily UVB exposure are keys to their good health.
