I feel as though turtles are one of the more deceptive pets. They look like they're so simple to take care of! But then you take them home and you realize..... oh..... these guys need attention.... and a lot of it. Their cages, while simple to put together, need a filtration system and need water changes frequently because otherwise they will smell and they will smell bad.

They will easily live past a person's interest in them, so you have to make sure that you're prepared to take care of a turtle for a lonnngggg time but they're at least easy to feed and are great for keeping kids entertained for quite a while. Not a bad pet, just not as simple as you'd hope they'd be.
