The Nile Monitor is a very large monitor Lizard and is the longest species in Southern Africa. They are very fast and are semi aquatic making them excellent swimmers. Where I live these natrually exiost in the wild and there are many of them about 15 minutes from my house. They rarely tame down in captivity and do not make good pets at all. They are great to keep and do well in large outdoor cages with a large pond to swim in. They remain very skittish thorough their lives are rarely tame down to like Rock Monitors do. The Rock Monitor is a far better pet lizard and I have kept some that are as tame as a puppy. Only recommended for extremely advanced keepers.
