Charlie the leopard gecko

My younger brother and his girlfriend purchased the gecko and then couldn't afford to care for it properly.

I took Charlie in and enjoyed caring for him for five years. I cleaned his terrarium weekly. He had an under-tank heating pad and lived in a 20 gallon tank. He lived on a diet of crickets and mealworms.

After five years, I made a mistake and put my hand in his habitat while he was still in predator mode after feeding him one day. I was trying to put water in his water dish but I think he thought the movement of my finger was prey and he latched onto my hand. He was large for a leopard gecko at 11 inches long and it was enough to peel the tip of a finger back to the nail. I know it was my fault that he bit me but after that I could barely stand to put my hand in his terrarium, even with a protective glove. Instead of keeping him and neglecting him I gave him up to a person who had more experience with lizards.
