I recently owned two male Jeweled Lizards (Jeweled Lacertas, Ocellated Lizards, Eyed Lizards) and I learned many things about these beautiful animals. Both of them had a temperament and were extremely quick. If they get out of your control, it will be a challenge to catch them. These lizards are not for children or inexperienced keepers! From my experience, I believe they are better for observing rather than handling.
A large cage is needed for Jeweled Lizards, a custom built enclosure may be a good option as tanks/aquariums can be pricey. They need water available at all times and humidity is also vital to their health. Spraying their cage once every other day is the minimum. I've noticed cypress bedding holds humidity best.
A heat lamp and basking spot is a must for these lizards. Using a rock or brick under a lamp is recommended; you'll see them basking quite often (I used basking time for them as picture taking time for me)!
The intensity of color vary from each lizard, the females are usually much more dull than the males. I mistook my one male for a female as his color was significantly darker compared to the other! You cannot depend on color for sexing them!
I definitely believe that these are for experienced keepers and won't be very social unless given a great amount of time with handling. A beautiful animal to observe and appreciate the beauty of but not for children or the inexperienced!
