I love my skinks. I have a couple of types but the five lined with the blue tail is by far the prettiest.

My skinks adopted me. I had never seen one before I bought this house in Northern Florida. One day I saw one on the porch and wondered what the heck it was. People tell me they are really fast, but mine, I have to just about kick it out of the way. I guess we're used to each other. They like to hang on the porch and eat the bugs they find and stare at me if I go out there. They aren't afraid of me at all, only afraid of being stepped on.

My dad came by yesterday and ran into him on the porch. When he came in he commented on how gorgeous that skink's tail is. And this is from a man who is absolutely terrified of snakes - and skinks look too much like them to pass for lizards. But he likes mine.

My skinks live in the wild, so I don't have to take care of them. I just try not to step on them when they get in my way. This is Florida, they have plenty of palmetto bugs out there to eat.
