Childhood memories are often coloured by events, people and places, however mine are highlighted by the memories of my pets. As a small child, I was gifted with two very small Eastern long-necked turtles and an aquarium. After naming these little guys, I got about setting up their new home, filling it with a pie pan a water, sprinkles of turtle food and a few smooth rocks for sunning and resting. They were easy to look after, they liked to sit in my hand and stretch their necks out, looking at the view.
However, as a small child with preoccupied parents, my dear turtles did not have their water changed often enough, and when school resumed, and the weather changed from summer to autumn, my turtles didn't survive.......
A wonderful pet for those who have older children, or adults who consistently can care for the environment and needs of our turtle friends.
