Don't go into what you don't know about.

My younger brother and I shared two diamondback terrapins, as they were gifts for his birthday. We had done some research - but apparently not enough. To be honest, they were more work and pleasure. They were very shy, and kept to themselves/hid if we tried to reach them. Furthermore, the cleaning was way more time consuming than we expected and if not done in time it would cause a terrible smell... and miserable conditions for turtles.
I wouldn't advise just anyone to go into keeping reptiles - it's not something that you "just" get!
