Crocodile Geckos

Crocodile geckos are very cool little geckos, but not always necessarily people friendly. And you have to be careful handling them, because they will lose their tail if you try to grab it to pick them up. Our gecko Hermes lost part of his tail the day we picked him up when the sales associate grabbed him by the tail to catch him. A couple months later he sort of grew part of it back, but you could clearly see where he'd lost it. And he continued to run from us every time we tried to pick him up, and he always opened his mouth at us when we finally caught him. I am not sure, but I wonder if he was wild caught. Hermes was extremely easy to keep though if you don't want a lizard you have to handle daily like bearded dragons. He wasn't very active, unless we were putting crickets in the tank. Most of the day he just liked to chill on his log, and sometimes he blended in so well we panicked thinking maybe he got out until he cracked an eye open and we could see him. I would recommend crocodile geckos for someone who likes lizards but doesn't have a lot of time to spend on them or who doesn't want to invest a lot in a tank set up, because Hermes pretty much took care of himself. And I do love the mini crocodile look he has going on. But if you're looking for a lizard who is more active and likes being handled more, you're probably better off with a different lizard.
