If you’re interested in owning a snake as a pet, corn snakes are a great beginner’s option. They are mild mannered and aren’t picky eaters. Corn snakes will get about three to five feet long and will live for around 10 years. Their tank set up is easy. It just needs to have some aspen bedding, places to hide, and a large enough water bowl. You also need to add a heat lamp that will keep the tank to about 75-85 F. Corn snakes are easy going and easy to handle. They will slither quickly away if you let them, so you’ll always want to make sure you are paying attention. But be warned – if you handle them a lot in one day, there is a chance that you will get pooped on! Corn snakes, and all snakes for that matter, take a few days to digest their food. Since digesting takes a while, they usually only poop once a week. When you handle a snake a lot, you are helping to move their poop down their long bodies. But another great feature of these awesome reptiles, is that they only need to eat once a week. Corn snakes also don’t have fangs so you don’t have to be afraid if they bite you. If, by chance, you are bitten, it will hurt less than if a cat bit you. Corn snakes are a great first time reptile owner. They will also help people who are afraid of snakes become a little less afraid.
