A great little snake to own is a Cornfield snake. They are cheap to buy, easy and enjoyable to hold and care for, and fairly inexpensive to build and maintain a habitat for. A wonderful, calm snake to share with children, as they move fairly slowly and tend not to bite unless they catch the scent when feeding. As with most snakes, they become more comfortable as they are held and bonded with, and they love sharing your warm body. They can be fed weekly or monthly and will grow according to how much they are fed. Feeding is fairly easy too, and interesting to witness, as they eat newborn or small mice as they are placed within it's habitat. Another nice feature of a Cornfield snake is that even though they enjoy being held with time, they can also be left alone for longer periods of time unlike most pets. I really enjoyed my years with my Cornfield and said goodbye to him as I gave him away to a thrilled teenage neighbor who I know enjoyed him for years!
