You're probably not even reading this if you dislike snakes. But if you have ever considered owning a snake, a corn snake is a great place to start. What I liked about my snake is that it loved being handled, and I found the feeling of holding the snake to be very soothing. They wrap around the warmth of your body heat and twist around your arm, fingers, neck, etc. I am not the type to choose a pet that doesn't interact, so I liked that this snake was comfortable with contact. That said, I would add there isn't much emotional connection to be made. It's not as if a snake will reply to its name, or be happy you got home from work. But they are also relatively low-maintenance and easy company.
