Snapping turtles do not make good pets - seriously

Snapping turtles are one of those breeds that you really need a good reason to own. When I was growing up, we lived in a very rural part of northern Michigan, and my dad would trap snapping turtles in the lakes and rivers of that area. We would often keep several as "pets" in large tanks or ponds, and I have to say...they are mean. They're definitely interesting and "cutting-edge", but are super-dangerous for kids to be around. Snapping turtles are almost like a "museum piece", an interesting creature to show friends who come over and want to see a reptile snap a stick in half. My dad's legs have many scars to prove how this plan can backfire.... =)
